MS Research at University of Oklahoma

  • Using radar data, disdrometer measurements, and HRRR model soundings to create operational icing detection products for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
  • Improving the CIMMS operational hydrometeor classification algorithm (HCA) by incorporating radar data and new drop size distribution (DSD) approximations.
  • Awarded First Place in the 2020 AMS Aviation Range and Aerospace Meteorology (ARAM) student paper contest (link).
  • Paper published in AMS journal “Journal of Applied Meteorology and Climatology.”

Vortex-SE Vertical Wind Profiles

  • Research assistant for Dr. Paul Markowski analyzing data from the VORTEX-SE project.
  • Analyzed low-level wind fields around supercells using Lidar vertical profiler to determine deviations from model expectations with the goal of improving severe weather forecasts.
  • Paper published in AMS journal “Monthly Weather Review”.

Warn-on-Forecast

  • Analyzed the impact of land surface models on the accuracy of the Warn-On-Forecast system for modeling flash floods and severe thunderstorms.
  • Gave an oral presentation on this research at the 2018 AMS Conference in Austin, TX.
  • Research conducted through the Hollings Scholarship Program internship in the National Severe Storms Laboratory, Norman, OK.

Penn State University Storm Shelter Map

  • Volunteer for the Penn State Office of Emergency Management.
  • Used GIS software to create a map of campus identifying all the buildings which could serve as storm shelters.  The map is now used during severe weather procedures.
